America's Best Contact and Eyeglasses offers eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses with over 700 locations in the U.S. as of 2019. Between 2005 and 2014, America's Best was a National Vision division, a subsidiary of Berkshire Partners. In 2014, National Vision, Inc was acquired by K.K.R. & Co. L.L.L.

America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses is the largest maker of designer eyeglasses in the United States.

Its predecessor firms were established in the summer of 1978.

ABC&E's first home base is Chicago. From 1978 to early 1990, ABC&E was funded internally. The business had 34 outlet stores by 1990. In April 1990, Grody sold the firm to Berkshire Partners in a leveraged buyout for $24 million, keeping a small stake. In 1993, Grody arranged a business takeover with Berkshire Partners, buying back majority ownership for 40 million. In April 1997, Grody sold ABC&E to Chrysallis Management for $50 million. Grody was the company's C.E.O. until its sale in 1997.

By 1997, ABC&E had $103 million in sales, and it was based in 25 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Chrysalis management, which operated eyewear stores based predominantly in the southwestern U.S., formed a consolidated vision group("C.V.G.") in April 1997, a holding company founded for its eyewear businesses. Including its acquisition at that time of America's Best Contact and Eyeglasses with America's Best Contact and Eyeglasses as its most extensive and best known national brand. By 2004, they had a revenue of $133 million from 111 locations.

In September 2005, Berkshire Partners, Again, Bought the Best Contacts & Eyeglasses Along With The Entire Eyewear Assets Of C.V.G., Simultaneously Purchased The National Vision Corporation. Upon National Vision, Inc.'s acquisition of more than eyewear businesses owned by Berkshire Partners with America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, it became the eyewear businesses' parent company.

In 2013, National Vision, Inc., had about 750 retail outlets, and America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses chain had about 425. In January 2014, NVI was purchased by K.K.R. & Co for more than $1 billion. Liz Prentice, again with management involvement and Berkshire Partners, continuing to occupy minority positions.
