Hardee's Restaurants LLC is the US fast-food restaurant chain in the southern and central United States owned by CKE Restaurants Holdings ('CKE') Inc. Since its establishment in North Carolina in 1960, the company has gone through numerous ownerships.

The first restaurant in Greenville, North Carolina opened on 3 September 1960 by Hardee's founder Wilber Hardee. Wilber decided to expand his restaurant after one year of success. He decided to open a new place so that he met James Gardner and Leonard Rawls to speak to him. In May 1961 James Carson Gardner and Leonard Rawls opened the first corporate store at Rocky Mount in North Carolinas, on McDonald's Street in Rocky Mount on North Church Street.

According to Wilbur Hardee Gardner and Rawls won a majority share of the business during a poker game. Hardee sold his remaining shares also to them after realizing that he had lost leverage over her namesake company.

Rawls and Gardner sold their first franchises, and over time, they developed hundreds of other franchises to a little community of longstanding friends and friends, who founded their own businesses. The Food Systems of Hardee was published as president in 1963. The Hardee`s menu of 1964 included: 15-cent hamburger, 20-cent orange cheese burger, 10-cent fried, 15-cent apple turnovers, 12-cent milk, 10-cm coffee, coke, Pepsi root and 15-cent soda and 10-cent orange beer and 10-cent milk shakes. Strawberry shakes were made of vanilla by adding berry syrup to combine with spindle.

By the end of the 1960s, the company operated close to 200 Midwest and Southwest restaurants and the company's first foreign locations in Germany. Hardee's expansion into the mid Atlantic countries began around the same period, especially South-east Pennsyler, Delaware and southern New Jersey. This expansion was made by HardeeNorthern, Inc., a franchise corporation headquartered in Philadelphia, which was a subsidiary of Acme Markets.

Hardee's fast chain-creation and high profits were built on the strength of its two main sandwiches in the mid-and-earth 1970s: the "Big Twin" and the "Big Deluxe" The acquisition of the Dee's Drive-In burger chain was made in late 70s, when Hardee's acquisition was made.

Hardee`s was bought by the Canadian company Imasco Limited in 1981. Burger Chef was sold for 44 million dollars in 1982 by General Foods to Imasco. Imasco transformed several locations into restaurants of Hardee and made Hardees' franchises turn into other brands near established Hardee sites. Other restaurants, which were not transferred to Hardee's branding, were closed.

In the early nineties, Hardee's outlets sold the famous chicken fried recipe of the Roy Rogers Restaurant in the hopes that it could compete with KFC. Besides Roy Rogers the Hardee's was also owned for a while by Rax Roast Beefs and sold the roast beef sandwiches throughout the Hardee system.

Hardee's acquired from Imasco for $327 million in April 1997 by Carl's Jr., the CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc.. The merger has formed a network of 3,828 restaurants, of which 3,152 were Hardee distributors in 40 countries and 10 abroad and 676 Carl's Jr. mainly in California.

Hardee's office moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 2001. The Hand Scooped Ice Cream Shakes & Malts was first introduced to Hardee in 2005. In September 2013, Hardee's expansion was announced in the Northeast of the US. Hardee's announced the opening by long-term franchisee, The Americana Group, of its 300th restaurant in the Middle East in April of 2015.
