The company offers more than 100,000 items in its assortment, including different fabrics and sewing supplies, materials for the craft, frames, home decorations, artificial floral items, and seasonal goods. Also, the company allows attending in-store and online classes for decorating of cakes, crocheting, embroidery, food and cooking, home and garden, kids' and teen, knitting, jewelry, painting and drawing, paper crafts, photography, quilting, seasonal trends, sewing, and spinning and weaving. Most of its shops are situated in strip mall shopping centers.

Jo-Ann Stores invests in innovations and improves its stores' interactivity to satisfy the new craft generation's demands.

A new prototype of the store was introduced for consumers, aimed to be a more modern platform for creativity. Launched in Columbus, Ohio, in 2018, the new style provides an area named "The Creators' Studio", where visitors can take workshops, arrange events, or hire craft equipment for project-building work. It even has touchscreen kiosks in shops for consumers to check for Pinterest artificer projects.

Among other innovations, there are:

  • Custom sewing services.
  • Personal shopping help.
  • A fabric "cut bar" where the customers can register and continue shopping while awaiting the turn.     

In Glowforge, a modern 3-D laser printer technology aimed at making complex, exact custom cut projects, Jo-Anne Shops invested in 2018. For laser cutting and engraving, the consumers may use new printers at select Jo-Ann shops.

Over time the organization developed its digital services. In 2018, Jo-Ann Stores released MyFabric, a personalized fabric-creating on order online tool. The organization also purchased Creativebug, a subscription and craft service online video provider, described by Steve Miller Senior, Vice President, Marketing and e-commerce at Jo-Ann stores, as "Netflix for DIY." The app allows the subscribers to watch DIY classes and tutorials at home or attend classes at a Jo-Ann store. Jo-Anne Stores has now made a smartphone app that helps users do shopping, look for project ideas, get coupons, and share their projects.

The Jo-Ann management wants you to know – their shops are not just the place where the customers visit the day before Halloween to get the costume fabric or get the fabric by the yard for a toga. Jo-Ann shops are a place for anything you make with your hands. They want people to know that if you're going to paint, make cookies, or knit, Jo-Ann is the place for you.
