History

Meineke was established in Houston, Texas in 1971 by Sam Meineke. He started franchising the name in 1972 with the help of Harold Nedell. The company was bought by multinational British company GKN in 1983. Its headquarters were then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The name was changed to Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc. from Meineke Discount Muffler Shops, Inc. in 2003. The retail chain also stopped being a publicly-traded company and became privately held. It then expanded its services and began offering full-auto repairs.

In 2006, the parent company to Meineke, which was referred to as Meineke Holding Company, changed its name to Driven Brands, Inc. It also acquired Econo Lube ‘N’ Tube Inc., a quick oil change company.

Two years later, Driven Brands, Inc. bought Maaco, Drive N Style, and Auto Qual. In 2013, Meineke announced that it was buying Walt’s Auto Care Centers, Seattle-Tacoma Auto repair shop. It also bought 8 America’s Services Station located in Atlanta the next year.
