The Mr. Saunders strategy gained great success – many grocers started to buy the Piggly Wiggly franchise and implement its new service system. Today, there are more than 400 locations in over 10 American states. Mostly, Piggly Wiggly shops are located in small cities covering predominantly Midwestern and Southern territories.

Many Americans wonder why Mr. Saunders chose such an interesting name for his stores. It’s a full-blown mystery since he never wanted to open it up. There are many suggestions around it. One people suggest that he took the name from a famous children’s poem. Others claim that once he was watching how the pigs were trying to get under the fence, and then this rhyme came to his mind. Or maybe, the main purpose was to give the store a name that would always attract the customers and make them discuss it.
