Where is the closest Sears?
Sears is a chain of department stores that sells merchandise and provides related services. It offers a wide range of apparel, home items, and automotive products and services through affiliated specialty and full-line stores as well as Sears-branded locations in the United States. Throughout the 1980s, Sears was the top retailer in the United States. Here are some of the things that you should know about the company.
History of the Brand
Sears was founded in 1892 by Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck. It was incorporated by Julius Rosenwald and Richard Sears in 1906. It is currently based in Hoffman Estates Illinois where it operates from. In its earlier days, it operated as a mail ordering catalog company with diverse product lines such as drugs, furniture, dry goods, hardware, consumer durables, and anything else that was popular with farm households. It later ventured into retail in 1925.
The first retail location was in Chicago, Illinois. This was after the original mail-order business model began to fail due to high competition from departmental stores. The success of that first store led to the expansion of Sears into other parts of the country. Sears opened more branches and included the mail-order business, especially in working-class and lower-middle-class neighborhoods. The brand's popularity helped to pull in customers as well as the continuous growth of car ownership is far from the downtown shopping districts.
In June 2019, Sears announced its acquisition by Transform Hodco LLC. This led to the closure of several stores.
Sears operates under different formats across the United States. The Sears full-line department store offers jewelry, home appliances, clothing, accessories, lawnmowers, sporting goods, electronics, garden supplies, household hardware, and other items.
Sears Grand stores carry everything a normal Sears store would have and may include health and beauty products, books, magazines, movies, music, pet food, and dry goods. Sears Home & Life sells hardline items such as tools, appliances, mattresses, lawn equipment, and gardening tools. Sears Home Services provides onsite maintenance, repair, and improvement of HVAC systems, fitness equipment, electrical, appliances, water heater, lawn and gardens, and HVAC systems.
Sears is part of a social shopping experience called Shop Your Way that allows members to earn points and get benefits across different types of digital and physical formats via the shopyourway.com website. Sears also sells several merchandise and related services via sears.com, specialty catalogs, and landsend.com.
Sears also sells proprietary brands such as DieHard and Kenmore. These two are among the most preferred and the most trusted brands in the United States. Sears is the largest home product and service provider and boasts over 14 million installation and service calls made every year.
Are there any Sears still open?
Following several years of low sales, Sears filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and announced that it would close most of its stores nationwide. It currently runs a few stores in different parts of America.
Are there any Sears stores left in Ohio?
Sears closed all its department stores in Ohio and remained with only 13 Sears Hometown and Sears Appliance Outlet locations.
