T.J. Maxx commonly known as TJ Maxx is a chain of department stores and is one of the largest US close retailers. The chain has a wide variety of products which include clothes, bedding, shoes, giftware as well as furniture. Combined with Sierra Trading Post, HomeGoods, Marshalls, HomeSense, Winners, and T.K. Maxx, TJX holds the largest discount clothing store in America. Bernard Cammarata founded T.J. Maxx in 1976, and at present, the company is operating more than 1,000 stores in the United States.

History of T.J. Maxx

T.J. Maxx was started in 1976 by Bernard Cammarata in Massachusetts, who worked for Marshalls as a merchandising head before starting the business. Zayre was a discount department stores chain that hired Cammarata to inaugurate a rival chain. Their concept proved fruitful that in 1988, Zayre sold the namesake chain to Ames, a rival store.

By December 1988, a restructuring plan was announced by Zayre and this is how TJX Companies incorporated. Marshals were bought by TJX in 1995, and in the fall of 1998, T.J. Maxx opened AJ Wright, a chain of stores, but the chain was closed in 2007. An e-commerce site by TJX was started in 2019 that sold handbags in the start, and later on, their range of items expanded to include clothing, shoes, and other accessories. T.J. Maxx is known as T.K. Maxx in UK, Germany, Netherlands, and Poland.
