History of White Castle

White Castle was established in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas, when two friends, Walter A. Anderson and Edgar Waldo "Billy" Ingram, formed a partnership. They started the business with $700 and sold their particular product for 5 cents. The store building was designed to appear as a small white castle and was named White Castle.

The product, which was a small square-shaped hamburger with beef patty, onions, and pickle, became the famous slider and was sold by the sack where each sack had ten sliders.

Later on, in 1933, Anderson parted ways with the company, and Ingram became the sole owner; he moved the headquarters from Wichita to Columbus. The company achieved the milestone of selling 1 billion hamburgers in 1961 and never looked back.
