The supermarket world is very competitive, and it is very hard to survive. In the American supermarket industry, there are many supermarkets that desperately fight for the clients’ attention. And Winn-Dixie belongs to this world.

If you live in the south-eastern part of the USA, you will definitely see Winn-Dixie because here, it’s not only a famous supermarket brand, it’s brand #1. Its chain comprises over 500 locations in such states as Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. In the American supermarket industry, Winn-Dixie takes fifth place among the largest lines of supermarkets.

Winn-Dixie History

During its almost a hundred-year history, Winn-Dixie has experienced rises and falls. Before World War I, Winn-Dixie’s founder, William M. Davis, operated an old-styled grocery shop in Idaho. As it was common at that time, the items in this store were sold in debt. After the war, the self-service grocery stores where you could pay only cash started to displace the credit old-fashioned shops as they had a more extended goods assortment at a lower cost. So, William M. Davis decided to risk. He settled down in Miami, bought the Rockmoor Grocery, and renamed it to Table Supply. The business went well, and Mr. Davis managed to build a strong grocery shop line. But then a new challenge came – Mr. Davis died and left his four sons alone with Table Supply.

The Davis family kept their father’s case and started to move forward. They bought Winn & Lovett, a chain of retail food shops, and united it with Table Supply. Later this new grocery line under the Winn & Lovett title purchased another grocery store line – Dixie. And finally, in the middle of the 1950s, it became what it is today – Winn-Dixie.

Winn-Dixie Assortment

As it is a grocery shop, the main goods of Winn-Dixie assortment are food. Here, you can everything your soul wants – meat, fish, various kinds of seafood, fresh vegetables and fruits, sweeties, bakeries, drinks, personal care items, pet food and stuff, baby items, and many other goods. As for the labels, Winn-Dixie offers you products of different recognized labels and their own brands.

In Winn-Dixie, there’s a three-tire group of their exclusive trademarks. The first is Prestige (it implies the most expensive good). The Winn-Dixie label comprises the basic items, and Thrifty Maid (now it’s known as Clear Value) includes the most valuable products.

Among other Winn-Dixie labels, you can also see Check (soda), Top Care (products for beauty and health), Kuddles (baby items), Whiskers & Tails (pet food and related stuff), etc.

Like many other grocery shops, Winn-Dixie has its own loyalty program known as Southeastern Grocers. It allows you to earn scores and get great discounts on food and fuel at Shell Stations.
