With two full days of sunshine each and every year, Grand Rapids, Michigan has plenty of attractions to keep visitors amused during the long summer months. From ice skating at Paradise Valley to roller coasters at Cedar Point, there are plenty of fun ways to pass the time during the warmer months. Grand Rapids was named one of the top 20 best cities to live in by the Natural Resources Defense Council. And, it's easy to see why:

The Aquarium & Botanical Garden is a great place to start with your family or have an educational day with your kids. You can spend hours just exploring the different marine creatures or just sitting on the swings and watching little crustaceans play. The Gardens also offer educational activities and workshops for kids of all ages, as well as picnic areas and grills for after-work treats. It's free to visit and the entrance is usually closed to the public. The aquarium offers several attractions including the Under the Sea exhibit, featuring sharks and stingrays, as well as the Children's Aquarium, which boasts an elephant habitat with lots of sandy areas and sandboxes. Other attractions include the Grand Circus Stagecoach Tours, Horseshoe River Rafting, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Westwood Trail Bicycle Paths, the Grand Rapids Historical Society, and the Westville Zoo.

If you love to shop, then you're in for a treat when visiting Grand Rapids city in Michigan. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor malls with beautiful shops and boutiques that carry a wide variety of merchandise. Besides the traditional malls, there are two new ones opening in the area. The Eastville Commons Shopping Center provides new businesses with space for large spaces and indoor/outdoor eating, shops, movie theatres, and indoor/outdoor pools. These wonderful additions to the city make it one of the most beautiful places to shop in the world.

If you're a kayaker, then you can go tubing over the beautiful Vermillion River that flows through this city. The Grand Rapids Ice Hockey Team plays at the historic Old State House on a regular basis and has won the very recently achieved trophy for being the United States' top team. For those who want a little more excitement, you can go to Kalamazoo and see a pit bull namedrop. There are tons of museums, festivals, concerts, and even a race that's part of the Sturgis Bike Rally.

If you are interested in history, then you will truly be captivated by the rich history that can be found in this city. One of the most famous residents was the famous poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who is buried at what was one of his many poems, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. While you are in this beautiful city, you might also enjoy a walk along the harbor and take in the breathtaking sunset. If you love animals, you will love the zoo and Aquarium and their lovely animals.

Of course, there are still plenty of other things to see and do in this city. Take a day trip to Kalamazoo and see a dolphin show while you are there. Or go fishing on Lake Kalamazoo, which is one of the largest lakes in the world. You will love the water and all the different types of fish that can be seen there. This is also a great place to catch some rainbow trout and catch a rainbow bass as well.

For those who like history, there are several attractions within the city that allow you to learn more about this period of time. One is the Western Reserve Historical Society Museum, which is full of exhibits, information, and even a small theater. You will find some very old pictures here such as a map of the city and a newspaper from this time period. This is definitely a good way to spend an afternoon and truly learn more about this era of Michigan history.
