The weather is pretty mild all year round. If you love to ski or snowboard, you will not have to leave the slopes anytime soon in Wichita. The two top ski areas are located in the North-East corner of the city and downtown. The Xcite Mountain Resort is in the southwest corner while Breckenridge Ski Resort is in the Northeast corner. You can't go wrong with either of these resorts.
If you love to bike, you will not have any trouble finding bike trails in the city. Wichita's River Trail is seven miles long and runs through a portion of the city. The other option is to take your bicycle on a one-hour tour of the city. You will pass through historic downtown areas, museums, parks, and other interesting places.
About a 40-minute drive from the city you will find Kansas City's Midway downtown. The Midway area is focused upon entertainment, sports, and dining. Many of the restaurants in this area are family-owned. One notable place is Tandoori Indian Food restaurant in the 600 blocks of W Prospect. The restaurant features a variety of Indian dishes including lamb, chicken, rice, and dessert. There are also several Indian bars and clubs for sports enthusiasts.
The Performing Arts Complex is located in the heart of downtown. The theatre complex features two venues, a stage for plays, as well as an auditorium for musicals and speeches. There are also a couple of museums inside the complex, including an art gallery and the Kansas History Museum. A free outdoor concert, Jazz Fest, is usually held every summer. Music lovers will enjoy this event because the jazz festival features top talent from across the country.
Not only is the performing arts complex full of things to do, but there is also a great museum to visit. The W.H. museum is housed in a historic district. This museum features a vast collection of art ranging from ancient to modern. The museum is housed in a historic area of the city which means visitors can experience things unique to the city of Wichita.
About 20 minutes from the downtown area is the Science Center. The Science Center is also home to a planetarium, aquarium, water science educational center, and a planetarium exhibit. This is a great place to take the kids because it offers things that children simply can't find anywhere else. It is a zoo-like environment where children can explore and learn while enjoying the beauty of nature around them. If you are looking for a unique educational experience, then you should definitely check out the Science Center.
One more reason to visit the Wichita area is that it is full of baseball fans. There are several professional baseball teams in the area, such as the Wichita Falls Yankees and the Fort Wayne Indians. The sports teams bring people back season after season to watch their teams in action. There are also many bars and restaurants in the area that cater to baseball fans. There are plenty of places to eat and many of these places are found within walking distance to any of the bars and restaurants. Because it is such a great city to live in, there are many things to do and see while visiting this part of the country.
